How to rotate multiple Google Photos at once

Sideways photos usually arrive in groups. A scanning session, a batch of imports from an old camera, a folder from a phone that recorded the wrong orientation. One at a time, rotating them in Google Photos is easy and slow.

Rotating one photo in Google Photos

1. Open photos.google.com and open the photo.
2. Click Edit, then Crop.
3. Click the rotate button until the photo is upright.
4. Save.

Every quarter turn is a few clicks, and a hundred scanned photos is a long, dull afternoon.

How to rotate multiple Google Photos at once

1. Install Batch for Google Photos from the Chrome Web Store.
2. Open Google Photos in Chrome and click Batch.
3. Select the photos that need the same turn. Filtering by date range or album is usually the quickest way to isolate a scanning session.
4. Choose Rotate and the direction.
5. Start the run and keep the tab open. Batch rotates each photo through Google Photos' own editor.

Group the photos by the direction they need first. A single run applies one rotation to everything in the selection, so photos needing a different turn belong in a separate run.

A note on scanned photos
